The program provides discretionary funding for freight and passenger rail system improvements -- with a focus on addressing safety, emissions, energy efficiency, and disadvantaged communities, plus intermodal connectivity. The $362 million in grant funds include set-asides for rural and for passenger rail. Application requirements include a formal (Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA.)
