NATIONAL COVERAGE OF EDR GROUP'S STUDY OF HIGH SPEED RAIL AND AMERICAN CITIES
EDR Group conducted a study for the US conference of Mayors, sponsored by the Siemens Corporation,of the local economic development impacts and opportunities associated with development of high speed rail (HSR) service to selected American cities. This new researchfocused onfour downtownand metropolitan areas, uncovered a wide range of critical local issues that have not been identified in past studies that had focused on broader regions. Four cities representing a wide range of different locations, sizes and potential operating conditions were studied: Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando and Albany, NY.
Stephen Fitzroy of EDR Group presented the study finding at the US Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Oklahoma City, June 13, 2010. Subsequently, he also presented the findings from a different perspective for the National High Speed Rail Conference: "Leveraging Federal Investment Locally" which was held at the Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management at New York University on June 16, 2010. On June 30th, at the request of the Subcommittee on Railroad, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Steve briefed Committee and Subcommittee members as well as senior congressional staff on the findings of this important new study.
