Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport
The City of Atlanta, Dept. of Aviation, has relied on EBP (formerly EDR Group), together with HNTB to conduct a series of economic studies for Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The airport plays a crucial role as a driver of economic development in the southeastern United States. In addition to the residents of metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia, the airport delivers wider economic benefits to the regional southeast of the United States. In the most recent study, EBP calculated that the airport generates almost 449,000 jobs for the Metro-Atlanta region and produces $58.2 billion in business revenues.
The economic analysis reports have covered three core subjects:
- A broad study of the economic impact of the entire airport on the metro area (defined by the 28-county Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area - MSA), state and region. However, the 2013 study also analyzed the economic impacts of the Piedmont Atlantic MegaRegion (select counties in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and all of South Carolina)
- Development and application of a new economic analysis tool for current and future use by the airport. The analytic tool is used for estimating the Airport's current contribution to the Atlanta regional economy and how it will change with shifts in operations, passengers and cargo services at the Airport. The model calculates direct economic impacts based on values of airport activity that are entered and changed.
- An air cargo analysis. In 2005, 2009, and 2013, EBP also included intensive air cargo analyses which evaluated the metro area, the state, and the Piedmont Atlantic MegaRegion.
