Columbia River Crossing Economic Impact Study

By David Evans Associates (DEA) and EDR Group (now EBP) for the Columbia River Crossing Organization.

EDR Group conducted economic impact analysis for a proposed reconstruction and expansion of the I-5 bridge over the Columbia River along the Oregon-Washington border. This work was conducted for a joint venture of Washington State DOT and Oregon DOT, under subcontract to David Evans Associates. The analysis focused on the impacts of the locally preferred alternative that shifts bridge height and roadway capacity.

The analysis covered job and economic impacts on the Portland metropolitan area, adjacent states and entire West Coast. It included impacts associated with reduced congestion and decreased travel times, improved safety for motorists, and improved safety and efficiency for marine navigation. Those benefits were assessed by examining implications for improved access to job opportunities throughout the region, reduced trucking costs, and improving access to goods and services delivery.
