Project

Economic Assessment Of Proposed Power Facility In Brockton, MA

by Economic Development Research Group, Inc. for Brockton Power Company, LLC, September 2009

For Advanced Power, a Swiss-based energy development company (Partnering with Siemens), EDR Group completed an economic impact analysis of a natural gas power plant being proposed as a cleaner, safer alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The proposed plant would be located in Brockton, MA. EDR Group developed impacts for both the City of Brockton and the surrounding three-county region. The analysis was done for the two geographies separately, meaning that the location of suppliers and workers' residence was crucial to distinguish the direct stimulus for each area.

Economic impacts were composed of two phases--short-term and long-term. Short-term impacts derived from the brief period of construction as the project would call on local labor and materials to build the plant. The long-term impacts were generated through local provision of goods and workers to support the plant's operationsas well as payments to the local government (PILOT and waste water-use payments).
