Economic Impact of Almaty-Issyk-Kul Alternative Road

EBP is currently conducting a study for the Asia Development Bank, to evaluate the economic development impacts and benefits of funding a new alternative road between Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyz Republic).

The project would lower travel times significantly between the large population center of Almaty (1.8 million population) and the attractive tourism area around Lake Issyk-Kul. The destination would become more accessible for weekend trips from Almaty and for Kazakh and international vacationers.

The Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) is intended to enable ADB and the governments of both countries to assess the economic feasibility of an investment in the new road. The results of the study demonstrate the relationship between the investment, the traveler benefits and the short- and long-term economic impacts in the region.
