Project

Economic Impact Of Continental 1 Highway Corridor

By Wilbur Smith Associates with Economic Development Research Group for Pennsylvania DOT, 2007

The proposed Continental One Transportation Corridor extends 1,500 miles from Toronto, Ontario to Miami, Florida. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT), as the lead agency of a multi-state coalition, selected a team led by Wilbur Smith Associates with Economic Development Research Group, to conduct an analysis of feasibility of completing this proposed highway corridor.

In August 2007, a report was finalized analyzing trade and tourism opportunities along this corridor. The report focused on: 1) trade and tourism economic development opportunities that can be enhanced through improved transportation; 2) transportation infrastructure needs to take advantage of these economic opportunities; and 3) non-traditional sources of funding.

The role of EDR Group is to apply its LEAP trans highway opportunities economic model to evaluate economic development market expansion and growth impacts associated with proposed transportation improvements.
