Pittsburgh/Allegheny County Airport Economic Impact Study

For the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA), EBP (formerly EDR Group) conducted an economic impact study of Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and Allegheny County Airport (AGC). The purpose of the study was to identify the role of the airport in the southwest Pennsylvania economy and to help the Airport Authority set its policy objectives.

The study documented contributions to the regional economy from on-airport activities, visitor spending, and support provided to businesses that depend on air transportation for travel and freight services. In addition, EBP explored multiple scenarios for the Authority, including the impacts of adding new passenger services, new all-cargo flights, and alternative investments being defined in PIT’s capital investment plan. Deliverables for this study included a fully calibrated economic impact model associated with future flight, passenger and freight levels for PIT and AGC to enable ACAA to conduct “what-if” analyses and to conduct sensitivity analyses.
