Applying Spatial Aggregation Methods to Identify Opportunities for New Bus Services in London

Cecilia Viggiano of EBP (formerly EDR Group) developed a framework for the use of origin-destination travel data in bus network sketch planning, including a methodology for defining transportation analysis zones that reflect the spatial characteristics of a public transport networks; metrics for evaluating service and identifying gaps; and spatial analysis methods to group origin-destination pairs into corridors recommended for new service. Conducted for Transport for London (TFL), her research included an evaluation of the data, methods, and metrics that can inform network planning decisions in existing networks. The paper was published in the Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board on September 20, 2018.
