EBP’s Analysis for APTA Plays Key Role in Transit Funding Provision of Newly Signed American Rescue Plan
On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act into law, including $30.5 billion for public transit agencies. Transit agencies have been hit hard by the pandemic, with a loss of fare revenue, as well as declines in other revenue sources, such as state and local taxes.

EBP Forecasts Public Transit Funding Needs as Pandemic Persists
For the American Public Transit Association (APTA), a nonprofit international association of 1,500 public and private sector organizations engaged in the public transit industry, EBP conducted an analysis of growing transit funding challenges precipitated by the pandemic across the U.S. Our analysis found that, even with the two rounds of emergency funding Congress provided in 2020, the nation’s public transit agencies still face a projected shortfall of $39.3 billion through the end of calendar year (CY) 2023 due to ongoing losses of fare revenue, tax revenue, and ridership.

Dr. Cecilia Viggiano Appointed as a Founding Member of the TRB Standing Committee on Transit Data
This year, the Transportation Research Board (TRB) officially designated AP090 Transit Data as a Standing Committee. Formerly, the topic of transit data was covered by the Joint Subcommittee on Transformative Trends in Transit Data (AP000/ABJ00). This designation reflects the importance of data for public transit agencies.
